Special copper alloys are used for the manufacture of most coins. The surface layers of the U.S. quarter, dime, 50-cent piece and Susan B. Anthony dollar are made from a 25% nickel-75% copper alloy. The figure shows the reverse sides of the first five "state quarters" issued by the U.S. Mint.
