Select Lamination Steel: Semi-Processed and Fully Processed Electrical Steels

Results from the testing of die-cast copper rotors have demonstrated that it makes little difference to performance whether rotors are fabricated using semi-processed or fully processed steel laminations.

During the ICA/CDA copper die casting project, a series of copper rotors were die cast where half of the rotors were produced using semi-processed steel laminations, while the other half were produced using an equivalent grade of fully processed steel. Performance testing of one rotor from each group showed little difference between the two sets of rotors, with both sets producing a similar reduction in iron losses.
