St. George, Utah

These uniquely crafted residential garage doors were created in copper by Mike Dumas Copper Designs for a single family home in St. George, UT. The overhead sectional doors measuring 9' x 10' and 9' x 18' depict the view of Zion National Park as seen from the home, which is situated in the high end, gated community of Stone Cliff.

Copper artist, Mike Dumas worked from photographs provided by the builder, Dave Jenson, of Jenson Construction and drawings by Mike's wife Julie to get just the right scene for this unusual application. The Martin Doors are covered in three dimensional textured and patinated copper in Mike's signature hand-worked finishes and textures. Styrofoam backing is used to create the scene and produce rigidity for stability in the artwork, and then covered piece by piece with copper. The garage doors are fully functional and coated with an automotive grade clear coat. Jenson is known for using Mike's copper work, in many of his luxury homes, in kitchens, lighting, and artwork; this being the second set of three dimensional copper garage doors Mike has done for the builder.

Mike works from his studio to create imaginative and functional copper art, using age-old techniques and basic hand tools in the style of the masters. His copper work includes unique lighting, wall art, water features, furniture, and panels for cabinetry and entry doors. Much of his lighting and artwork incorporates Julie's fused glass and stained glass combined with the copper for a distinctive style and one-of-a-kind pieces. Mike's work can be seen on his website and is available for custom orders as well as in stock pieces.
