Copper Helps Control Infection in Healthcare Facilities
The news media and the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States recently sounded the alarm over infections contracted in hospitals and other healthcare facilities due to lack of proper sanitation procedures... Copper (as well as brass and other copper alloys), when used as building hardware, plumbing tube and as ions injected directly into potable water, is a significant deterrent to the contraction of disease by the reduction of bacteria and viruses in healthcare facilities.

Producing Copper Nature's Way: Bioleaching
Bioleaching is the extraction of a metal from sulfide ores or concentrates using materials found native to the environment; namely, water, air and microorganisms. In other words, bioleaching is the commercialization of the ability of certain bacteria and archaea, found in nature, to catalyze the oxidation of sulfide minerals.

Copper – Something New Under the Sun?
Copper, its many compounds and alloys are continually being researched, and new developments surface daily. But where do you find out what's new? Scientific journals, sure, but some of the richest sources are the many patents published worldwide. Fortunately, almost all patents are now available online. Here's how to access them.

Useful Service Life Evaluation Testing of Copper Tubing for Gas Distribution System in California
This paper presents the result from this test program, along with the key details of the test program. These include the scope of work, the test set-up, summary of test results and the conclusions based on analysis of the test results.
The Latest News
Copper-based Solar Cells:
Good for the Environment, Good for the Consumer
Copper has long been used in solar heating/hot water systems, where it is commonly used in heat exchangers. Now, it promises to become equally valuable in photovoltaic (PV) systems. These systems produce electricity through the action of sunshine on certain semiconductors, including so-called thin-film materials and the currently most promising material: copper indium gallium diselenide or CIGS.
The Presidential Dollars
Golden Collectibles or the Next Coin of the Realm? The U.S. Mint is betting it’s got it right this time. The Mint placed into circulation the first of its new golden dollar coins featuring, for the initial issue, George Washington.
High Strength Copper Steel for Rail Tank Cars to Bridges
This paper shows that the new Copper Steel has advantages over steel presently used in railroad tank cars. The higher strength leads to weight saving; higher impact fracture toughness mitigates against brittle failure particularly at low temperatures. An update of recently completed bridge using the Cu Steel is also provided.
