A Systems Approach to Calculating Energy Savings

It is not uncommon for an engineer, contractor or specifier to go through some quick energy savings calculations when deciding whether to expend a few extra dollars for the premium efficiency version of a motor or other device. Typically, a simple payback is calculated, which may have to be presented to the purchasing manager for approval of the extra cost of the higher efficiency. However, every element of the electrical system upstream of the motor – especially the wire and transformer – will also be affected, so the savings do not stop with the motor!

These pages are provided to help you determine the most efficient, most cost-effective energy-saving solutions to energy-saving projects.
